Reviews by Komal Nahta from Koimoi
All in all, the drama in the film’s second half doesn’t hold. And the incidents in the first half are too stretched to create much of an impact. In other words, the screenplay is defective. Dialogues, penned by Aakash Kaushik, are fairly nice. The muting of the sound in some of the dialogues, due to censor objections, sticks out like a sore thumb. Jodi Breakers is a dull show. It will not be able to break even. Jodi Breakers is not too much of an entertainer and will not be able to break even. Considering the dull start and lack of merits in it, it will entail losses to all concerned.
The entertaining second half and the hit music save Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya and make it a plus fare for Tips and UTV. However, a few of the distributors who have acquired territorial distribution rights at fancy prices will not be able to make money. Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya is an entertaining film and will, therefore, be liked by families. Its music is a major plus point just as its second half is.
The movie's arresting screenplay; the performances of the cast; the Chikni Chameli song; the raw action; the canvas, the making and the shot takings; the direction are what works in movie's favor. Agneepath is a surefire hit. Watch it for so many reasons but be prepared for gore and violence… plenty of it!
Players will play a losing game at the box-office. Given the huge investment (of Rs. 65-70 crore) made in the film, it will end up entailing heavy losses to the producers as well as distributors. Its dull start will only add to its tale of woes. While the story is interesting the screenplay botches the attempt so badly that Players turns out to be a boring fare. The loose and uninteresting screenplay; the poor music; the dull acting of Abhishek, Sonam and Bobby make Players a bad movie
The Dirty Picture is a lovely picture. It will work wonders at the box-office and work in both, multiplexes as well as single-screen cinemas. Its dialogues, music, performances and mature handling are its biggest plus points. The Dirty Picture is a wonderful film and will do extraordinary business. A sureshot hit! For the genre of film it is, The Dirty Picture will write box-office history!!
The uninteresting screenplay; the action sequences which look out of place are what work against the movie. 'Tell Me O Kkhuda' does not have the merits to make any mark at the box-office. Watch it if you like family dramas.
Given such a flawed screenplay, the audience cannot be expected to enjoy the drama which, even otherwise, is very predictable. What’s more, there aren’t any surprises or shocks whatsoever. Dialogues (Subrat Sinha) are ordinary. Damadamm! is a dull fare which will bomb at the ticket windows. Watch it if you are a fan of Himesh Reshammiya’s music.
Individual sequences; stars’ performances; excellent visual effects; the superlative action, the ‘Chammak Challo’ song; eye-filling photography; extraordinary background score... are the things that work in favor of the movie. Ra.One has novelty and great visual effects to see it through at the box-office and ensure profits in spite of its very high cost. Definitely watch Ra.One for the superlative performances and the grand visual effects and the 3D effects.
It goes without saying that the writers have made a laughing stock of the most feared autocrat the world has ever seen, Hitler. Even if they wanted to portray Hitler’s last few desperate days, they could have, at the least, given the audience a glimpse of his former glory. But no, the writers have chosen, instead, a lengthy and boring historical narration that keeps popping up intermittently between scenes.Rakesh Ranjan Kumar’s direction is non-existent as his narrative makes no sense at all. Even the climax, which could have potentially been a high-point of the film, is botched as it has been mishandled. Gandhi To Hitler is a terribly poor fare. It will flop miserably at the box-office.
Always Kabhi Kabhi neither has the warmth and emotions of a teenage love story nor the entertainment value and music of a romantic drama. It will not be able to make much of a mark at the box-office.
Praful Parekh and Mohammad Salim’s story is embarrassingly poor. Their screenplay cares little for logic but what’s worse is that even the scenes meant to evoke laughter rarely do that. Since the story line is very thin and the screenplay, very shoddy, the audience just does not connect with the characters or the drama. Bin Bulaye Baraati is a poor fare as it has precious little to offer except a few song-dances. It will fail at the ticket counters.
Sagar Ballary’s story is juvenile and the screenplay, looks like a mere assemblage of scenes meant to tickle the funny bone. But the unfortunate part is that the scenes hardly evoke laughter. Bheja Fry 2 is not at all a worthy sequel to Bheja Fry. Since the film, designed as a comedy, does not create too much laughter, it will fail to make its mark at the box-office.
Bhindi Baazaar Inc. is a dull fare with some chances in pockets of Bombay only but bleak chances in the rest of India because it lacks novelty, face value and entertainment value.
Sachin Bajaj’s story is quite nice but upto a point. If it seems too Utopian, it is because the plausibility element is almost missing. The screenplay (by Tushar Hira and Mayur Puri), like the story, is good only upto a point. Things become too simplistic and serious after interval. F.A.L.T.U. has an entertaining first half and an average second half. With hit music as its trump card and coming as it does after a dull period of no big releases (in March), it will prove to be an earning proposition.
Abhinay Deo’s direction is average. The pace and the excitement of a suspense thriller are missing. Although his shot takings are good, his narrative style leaves something to be desired. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is okay. The need of the film was hit music but that’s missing. Chehre pe chehra is the best song and its placement in the end rolling titles is not a very intelligent move. Game is a weak film with dull chances.
